Moneda de Plata de Carlos y Juana de Santo Domingo
Soft cover, 98 pages, illustrated with close up coin photos. (2023)
First presented at the Santo Domingo MMXXIII Convention, this book is entirely dedicated to the silver coinage minted in Santo Domingo between 1542 and 1552, during the reign of Queen Joanna and Emperor Charles. Titled “The Charles & Joanna Silver Coinage of Santo Domingo, 1542–1552” / “La moneda de plata de Carlos y Juana de Santo Domingo, 1542–1552,” it’s a bilingual edition (English and Spanish), ideal for both scholars and collectors.
Authored by Cori Sedwick Downing and Isaac Rudman—two respected figures in numismatics—this work goes far beyond a standard catalog. It stands as the most complete reference to date on the silver coinage of this early New World mint. Every known die variety is carefully identified, described, and illustrated—a remarkable achievement given the rarity and scarcity of these coins.
Highlights of the Book:
The first in-depth catalog focused exclusively on this brief but significant period of colonial coinage in Santo Domingo
High-quality photography and a layout designed with collectors in mind
Rigorous research and detailed die studies, presented in a fully bilingual format for broader accessibility
