USA, New Orleans, Seated Liberty half dollar, 1853-O, with inscribed A in field, NGC Shipwreck Effect SS Republic Inscribed.
Not only is this a desirable type coin from the wreck but the additional presence of a hand carved A on the obverse makes this a unique shipwreck coin. One can imagine a bored person in New Orleans errantly carving this initial into the coin they found in their pocket sometime in the 1850s or 1860s. (NGC #1831167-032)
