Eimer-882; BHM-438. 40.55 grams. 40 mm. Obverse with left-facing bust of Admiral John Jervis inside legend ADMIRAL EARL / ST VINCENT G.C.B.; reverse with winged Victory hovering above two Spanish ships at which she hurls thunderbolts above three-line exergue with SPANISH FLEET DEFEATED. / OFF CAPE ST. VINCENT / XIV. FEBY. MDCCLXXXXVII flanked with makers' names. Popular medal design depicting the defeat of the Spanish fleet by an allegorical thunderbolt-wielding Victory, number 4 in James Mudie's 1820 series of British Victories. Mint State with glossy lustrous fields, touch of cabinet rub on the high relief.
