Description:

ECUADOR, struck at the Mexico City Mint, 5 sucres, 1943, NGC MS 66, "top pop."

Seppa/Anderson-232; KM-79. Incredibly frosty cartwheel luster with minimal bagmarks, traces of die-breaks, currently tied with six others for finest known in the NGC census. Seppa/Anderson notes that "a large number" of these coins (among 55 tons of Ecuadorian silver) were melted in 1965 by one U.S. refinery, as the silver content was worth twice the face value. (NGC #6951173-004)
